New on the shelves for the autumn

10th November 2016 by Anne James

LATEST ADDITIONS to the Library book shelves this autumn include new titles from big-name writers James Patterson, Val McDermid, Debbie Macomber and Michael Connelly.

Private Vegas

by James Patterson

JACK MORGAN, head of Private Investigations, a global agency for the rich and famous, is being pushed to the limit. His car has been firebombed, his ex is dating someone else, and his twin brother is still out to destroy him.

But Private doesn’t rest, and nor do its clients: not the LAPD who need Private’s help catching two scumbags with diplomatic immunity, and not the client who has just confessed to murdering his wife. Add to that Jack’s best friend being held on a trumped-up charge that could see him locked away for a very long time, and it seems that all bets are off…

Five new titles from Richard and Judy’s autumn choice

17th October 2016 by Anne James

NEW TITLES are constantly being added to our shelves. The latest additions include five titles recommended for the autumn by Richard and Judy’s Book Club.

Circling the Sun

by Paula McLain

SHE WAS A DAUGHTER of Edwardian England, transplanted to Kenya as a young girl by parents who dreamed of life on an African farm. But by the time that Beryl Markham was 16, that dream had fallen apart. Catapulted into a disastrous marriage, she emerged from its wreckage with one idea: to take charge of her own destiny.

Circling the Sun takes us from the brittle glamour of the 1920s Happy Valley set fuelled by gin and adultery, to the loneliness of life as a scandalous divorcée; from the spectacular beauty of the Kenyan landscape to the manicured lawns of Nairobi’s Muthaiga Club.

Beryl is an unforgettable heroine. Scandalising high society with her errant behaviour, she left her husband and became the first woman to hold a professional racehorse trainer’s licence. Beryl became embroiled in a complex love triangle with the writer Karen Blixen and big game-hunter Denys Finch Hatton – immortalised in Blixen’s memoir Out of Africa. It was this unhappy affair which set tragedy in motion, while awakening Beryl to her truest self, and to her fate – to fly.

New King and Cussler titles now on the shelves

28th September 2016 by Anne James

NEW TITLES from the prolific pens of Stephen King and Clive Cussler are among the new additions to the library shelves this autumn.

Finders Keepers

by Stephen King

NOT SINCE Misery has Stephen King written with such visceral power about a reader with such a dangerous obsession.

1978: Morris Bellamy is a reader obsessed by America’s iconic author John Rothstein that he is prepared to kill for a trove of notebooks containing at least one more unpublished novel.

2009:  Pete Saubers, a boy whose father was brutally injured by a stolen Mercedes, discovers a buried trunk containing cash and Rothstein’s notebooks.

2014:  After 35 years in prison, Morris is up for parole. And he is hell-bent on recovering his treasure.

Now it is up to retired detective Bill Hodges – now running an investigative company called ‘Finders Keepers’ – to rescue Pete from an ever-more deranged and vengeful Morris….

The Narrow Road to the Deep North

by Richard Flanghan

IN THE DESPAIR of a Japanese prisoner of war camp on Burma’s notorious ‘Death Railway’, surgeon Dorrigo Evans is haunted by his love affair with his uncle’s young wife two years earlier. Struggling to save the men under his command from starvation, from cholera, from beatings, he receives a letter that will change his life forever.

This is a story about the many forms of love and death, of war and truth, as one man comes of age and prospers, only to discover all that he has lost.

Blood Med

by Jason Webster

SPAIN IS CORRUPT and on the brink of collapse. The king is ill, banks are closing, hospitals are in chaos, homes are lost, demonstrators riot and right-wing thugs patrol the streets. The tunnels beneath the streets are at once a refuge  and a source of anger. And as the blood flows Max Camara roars in on his motorbike…

Camara is back in Valencia, and in the old police headquarters the mood is tense as the chief hunts for cuts – who will go, Camara or his friend Torres? The two men are flung into action investigating the suicide of an ex-bank clerk and the brutal murder of a young American woman. As the city erupts around them, their case takes them into the heart of the trouble.

The Emperor’s Revenge

by Clive Cussler

JUAN CABRILLO and the crew of the Oregon – the Corporation – face an unprecedented challenge when a violent bank heist during the Monaco Grand Prix decimates their bank accounts.

To get their money back, Juan joins forces with an old friend from his days in the CIA to track down a rogue hacker and a ruthless former Ukrainian naval officer.

It is only after the Oregon’s hunt begins that the enormity of the treacherous plan comes into focus – the bank theft is just the first step in a plot that will result in the deaths of millions and bring the world’s economies to a standstill.

The catalyst for the scheme? A stunning document stolen during Napoleon’s disastrous invasion of Russia. But 200 years later, it may be the thing that brings Europe to its knees.

When She Was Bad

by Tammy Cohen

SARAH AMIRA, Paula Ewan and Charlie enjoy their routine 9-to-5 life. Until the day an aggressive new boss walks in..

Suddenly, there’s something chilling in the air. Who secretly hates everyone? Who is tortured by their past? Who is capable of murder?
