Books of the Month

6th January 2018 by Graham Taylor

VETERAN MASTERS of the thriller genre are to the fore in the latest selection of new books added to the Library shelves.

There are offerings from the prolific pens of seasoned authors John Grisham, Peter Robinson and Sharon Bolton, as well as a new bestseller from debut writer Louise Jensen.

Dead Woman Walking

by Sharon Bolton

JUST BEFORE DAWN in the hills near the Scottish border, 13 passengers on a hot-air balloon flight witness a brutal murder. Within the next hour all but one of them will be dead.

Alone, scared and trusting no-one, she flees for her life, running to the one place she feels safe. But she’s seen the killer’s face and he’s seen hers – and he won’t rest until he’s eliminated the last witness to his crime…

When The Music’s Over

by Peter Robinson

WHEN THE BODY of a 15-year-old is found in a remote countryside lane, beaten and broken, Detective Inspector Anne Cabot is brought in to investigate. Newly-promoted Detective Superintendent Alan Banks is faced with a case that is as cold as they come.

Now in her 60s, Linda Palmer was attacked aged 14 by celebrity entertainer Danny Caxton, yet the crime has never been investigated – until now. As each step gets closer to uncovering the truth, they'll unearth secrets much darker then they ever could have guessed…

The Sister

by Louise Jensen

GRACE HASN’T BEEN THE SAME since the death of her best friend Charlie. She is haunted by Charlie’s last words, and in a bid for answers, opens an old memory box of his.

It soon becomes clear there was a lot she didn’t know about her best friend. When Grace starts a campaign to find Charlie’s father, Anna, a girl claiming to be Charlie’s sister steps forward.

Soon Anna has made herself very comfortable in Grace and boyfriend Dan’s new home. But something isn’t right. Things disappear, Dan’s acting strangely and Grace is sure that someone is following her.

As she gets closer to discovering the truth about Charlie and Anna, is Grace in terrible danger?

The Whistler

by John Grisham

LACY STOLTZ IS AN INVESTIGATOR into judicial corruption. She never expected to be in the firing line. Until she met Grey Myers.

Myers knows a whistleblower who has the dirt on a female judge in league with organised crime. She has hustled through legislation for the building of a casino on an Indian reservation. Anyone who opposed the scheme is dead.

The judge and her friends have made several fortunes from skimmed profits. Now Myers wants Lacy to start an investigation. In doing so, she will put herself firmly in the sights of the killers.

DVD Corner

Fargo

DS392

DESCRIBED AS THE BEST new drama since Breaking Bad, Fargo features a new 'true crime' story and new characters… all chilled in the trade-mark dry wit, murderous mayhem and ‘Minnesota niceness’ of the original classic film.

Billy Bob Thornton stars as Lorne Malvo, a manipulative master criminal who changes the life of insurance salesman Lester Nygaard (Martin Freeman). Fargo’s ‘small town’ police officers join forces to uncover Lester’s secrets and stop the relentlessly destructive Malvo.

One of the highest-rated TV series on the Internet Movie Database, with a score of 90/100.
