21 NEW TITLES WERE ADDED THIS MONTH (New releases +++)

DA478: FANTASTIC 4: RISE OF THE SILVER SURFER: The Fantastic Four learn that they aren’t the only super-powered beings in the universe when they square off against the powerful Silver Surfer and the planet-eating Galactus.

DA482: ALIEN VS. PREDATOR: During an archaeological expedition on Bouvetøya Island in Antarctica, a team of archaeologists and other scientists find themselves caught up in a battle between the two legends. Soon, the team realize that only one species can win.

DA494: HELLBOY: Hellboy, caught between the worlds of the supernatural and human, battles an ancient sorceress bent on revenge.

DA495: HELLBOY 2: The mythical world starts a rebellion against humanity in order to rule the Earth, so Hellboy and his team must save the world from the rebellious creatures.

DA496: STARDUST: In a countryside town bordering on a magical land, a young man makes a promise to his beloved that he’ll retrieve a fallen star by venturing into the magical realm.

DC0081F: DOCTOR WHO. THE TALONS OF WENG-CHIAN: The Doctor and Leela land in Victorian London, and find themselves in the middle of missing girls, mutilated bodies, and vicious Chinese gangs. The Palace theater, presenting hypnotist Li H’sen Chang seems to be at the center of it all.

DC191: ESCAPE TO WITCH MOUNTAIN: Two mysterious orphan children have extraordinary powers and are chased by a scheming millionaire. But where do these kids really call home?

DL457: MILLIONS: Ethics, being human and the soul come to the fore when a 7-year old finds a bag of Pounds just days before the currency is switched to Euros and learns what we are really made of.

DL458: SHOWTIME: A spoof of buddy cop movies where two very different cops are forced to team up on a new reality based television cop show, while tracking down the manufacturer and distributor of an illegally made semi-automatic firearm.

DV1316: SONG FOR A RAGGIE BOY: The true story of a single teacher’s courage to stand up against an untouchable prefect’s sadistic disciplinary regime and other abuse in a Catholic Reformatory and Industrial School in 1939 Ireland.

+++DV1322: JUDY: Legendary performer Judy Garland arrives in London in the winter of 1968 to perform a series of sold-out concerts.

+++DV1323: MRS LOWRY & SON: A portrait of the artist L.S. Lowry and the relationship with his mother, who tries to dissuade him from pursuing his passion.

DV1324: QUARTET/TRIO/ENCORE: Three films by W. Somerset Maugham. A total of 10 short stories. Old but not dated as his work is finely honed and covers a broad spectrum of interest.

Latest DVDs – February 2020

The Library has a huge collection of DVDs, with something to cater for all tastes. We even have a children’s section to help you entertain the grandchildren when they come to stay.

All DVDs are catalogued and separated into sections to help you find one to suit. A list of newly-added titles is also available to help you choose and if there’s a particular film, TV series or documentary you wish to see then one of our volunteers can easily check our database to see if what you want is in our collection.

DA477: X-MEN ORIGINS WOLVERINE: The early years of James Logan, featuring his rivalry with his brother Victor Creed, his service in the Special Forces team Weapon X, and his experimentation into the metal-lined mutant Wolverine.

DA479: WATCHMEN: In 1985 where former superheroes exist, the murder of a colleague sends active vigilante Rorschach into his own sprawling investigation, uncovering something that could completely change the course of history as we know it

DA480: KNOWING: M.I.T. professor John Koestler links a mysterious list of numbers from a time capsule to past and future disasters and sets out to prevent the ultimate catastrophe.

DA489: SKY CAPTAIN AND THE WORLD OF TOMORROW: After New York City receives a series of attacks from giant flying robots, a reporter teams up with a pilot in search of their origin, as well as the reason for the disappearances of famous scientists around the world.

DL455: ALMOST FAMOUS: A high-school boy is given the chance to write a story for Rolling Stone Magazine about an up-and-coming rock band as he accompanies them on their concert tour

DL456: THE LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS: The Little Shop of Horrors is a farce about an inadequate florist’s assistant who cultivates a plant that feeds on human blood. The film employs an original style of humour, combining black comedy with farce and incorporating Jewish humour and elements of spoof.

DM159: YESTERDAY: A struggling musician realizes he’s the only person on Earth who can remember The Beatles after waking up in an alternate timeline where they never existed.

THERE’S NOTHING LIKE A DAME: Maggie Smith, Joan Plowright, Eileen Atkins and Judi Dench.

HEADING FOR THE LIBRARY SHELVES for November, our latest DVD additions feature an eclectic mix of genres and big-names. Variously they feature the pen of J K Rowling, star names such as Helen Mirren, Diane Keaton, Donald Sutherland and Michael Douglas, not forgetting four of the biggest UK actress dames stage and screen has yet produced, namely Eileen Atkins, Judi Dench, Joan Plowright and Maggie Smith.
