THE NEXT FILM CLUB screening will be a comedy Going In Style, starring Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine and Alan Arkin as lifelong buddies Willie, Joe and Al, who decide to buck retirement and step off the straight and narrow for the first time in their lives.
Government has Brexit pledge for expats

A LEADING UK government official pledged that the rights of British expats were the number one priority during the Brexit negotiations.
The pledge came when a full house at the English Library of over 50 residents heard a talk on UK and Spain: Beyond Brexit from the deputy head of mission at the British Embassy in Madrid, Mr Tim Hemmings, who was accompanied by Charmaine Arbouin, the Consul for Southern Spain and the Canary Islands, and Helen Keating, vice-consul in Tenerife.
He outlined the current negotiations in as far as was relevant, stressing how many areas of agreement already existed between the British Government and the EU team.
Swallows back for busy autumn
Summer has flown by and the Library is already welcoming back our winter ‘swallows’. It’s good to see so many familiar faces returning to the island.
The good news for the returnees is that there is no increase in membership fees this year. A reminder to everyone that fees are now due, €35 for single members and €45 for double membership.
New-year subscriptions due now
LIBRARY SUBSCRIPTIONS for the 2017/2018 subscription year are now due and we are happy to report that for the fourth year running there is no increase in fees.
The Film Club will be showing The Zookeeper’s Wife on Thursday, October 26. Refreshments and ice creams available during the intermission. We will be open from 1.30pm with lights down at 2pm.
Beyond Brexit: Let us know asap
AS WE PREPARE to welcome back our winter swallows, most of whom will be drifting back during October and November, it seems timely to remind members of one or two upcoming events.
The Library has been asked to host a talk on “The UK and Spain: Beyond Brexit” by Mr Tim Hemmings, Deputy Head of Mission at the British Embassy in Madrid. It is, as expected, proving to be very popular so if you wish to attend we would urge you to let us know as soon as possible by email to [email protected].
