Four Sudanese children orphaned after their village is massacred in Sudanese Civil War endure hardship, death and sacrifice on their trek to safety in an Ethiopian refugee camp. Years later they are among 3,600 selected for resettlement in America. The one girl among them is sent to Boston while the three boys make a new life in Kansas City. Their encounter with an employment agency counsellor forever changes all lives.
