New books take us from Asia, to the Grand Canyon and on to Venice

22nd September 2016 by Anne James

A NEW Paul Janson thriller set in Asia, a romantic offering from Dannielle Steel set in and around the Grand Canyon and Las Vegas, and a mystery set against the backdrop of Venice’s famous opera house head a list of globetrotting titles added to the Library shelves this month.

Robert Ludlum’s The Janson Equation

by Douglas Corleone

DOUGLAS Corleone was selected by the Estate of Robert Ludlum, creator of the Jason Bourne series, to continue Ludlum’s series of thrillers featuring ex-Navy SEAL and former government covert agent Paul Janson, who first appeared in the bestselling novel The Janson Directive. Other books in the series include The Janson Command and The Janson Option, both written by Paul Garrison. This summer release is the fourth novel in the Paul Janson series.

To prevent a war in Asia – one that could spread quickly to the rest of the world – Paul Janson and Jessica Kincaid must learn the truth behind a young woman’s murder…

US Senator James Wyckoff hires former government agents, now private security consultants, Janson and Kincaid to locate his teenage son Gregory.

Gregory’s girlfriend Lynell has been found strangled in a Seoul hotel and Gregory has fled the city to avoid being arrested for the crime.

But Senator Wyckoff insists that his son is innocent, suggesting that Lynell, a translator, may have been murdered because of something she overheard at a recent international conference. And when Janson and Kincaid realise that they are being hunted by an assassin, they suspect that this crime – and the cover-up – are being orchestrated by a shadowy unit of the US State Department as part of a larger plot to provoke violence between North and South Korea.

Where There’s Smoke

by Simon Beckett

INSIDE THE ROOM it is even darker, like walking in ink. Blind, she feels her way through the half-familiar landmarks of beds and bookshelves. Her heart thuds. Blood from the wound is sticky, and at her touch there is a white leap of pain that lighten’s the darkness. She hears the footsteps now, drawing closer…

Meet Kate Powell. She is successful, single, and likes to be in control.  But lately her life has begun to feel a little shallow, a little meaningless.

Aware that her body clock is ticking, Kate believes that she knows how to fix her problems. She wants a child.

Unable to imagine never meeting her baby’s father, Kate advertises for a donor. Alex Turner appears to be the perfect match.

But appearances can be dangerously deceptive…

Falling in Love

by Donna Leon
